Tests and Trials

This is a summary of Elder Henderson's teaching from Sunday, April 17, 2011

General Patton once said “Better to fight for something than live for nothing.”  Sometimes, the pressures of life require us to fight for what we believe in.  Don't despair, God uses these situations to make us stronger and to turn us into what he wants us to be.  In fact, the only time real learning and growth can take place is during a fiery trial.  No matter how hot it gets, or how long it seems to last, don't give up hope.  Put your trust in God.  He will not only help you pass the test, he'll also put a song of joy in your heart.  The next time life's pressures get you down, consider the following excerpts from the book of Psalms: 

Psalms 40:1-3
1  I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.

2 He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, [and] established my goings.

3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, [even] praise unto our God: many shall see [it], and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

Psalms 16:11
11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence [is] fulness of joy; at thy right hand [there are] pleasures for evermore.

Psalms 30:5
5 For his anger [endureth but] a moment; in his favour [is] life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy [cometh] in the morning.

Psalms 34:1-4
1 <[A Psalm] of David, when he changed his behaviour before Abimelech; who drove him away, and he departed.> I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise [shall] continually [be] in my mouth.

2 My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear [thereof], and be glad.

3 O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.

4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
